SMP Group 3 – Day 5

“The Precious Farewell”

Today was our last day of school. Waking up early in the morning, we tried to cherish the day a lot more. We then had breakfast, which had lasagna, sausages, salads and fish soup. Then, everyone went downstairs to enter the bus and went for our last day of school.

Finally, we arrived at school. As usual, we went straight to class and followed the lesson. After all the lessons were finished, we gathered in the school lobby, where we took photos in the school garden, after that we immediately gave farewell gifts to our buddies. Then, we immediately met with the school administrators and school principal and thanked them for the last time. Finally, we got on the bus and said good bye to the residents of Dunman High School.

To start off our sightseeing journey today, we visited the Singapore Mobility Gallery. There were so many different interactive games to play with. These games were specially aimed for young generations like us to expand our thoughts and critical thinking in building a more sustainable nation in terms of public transport and technology. It was really impressive to see that people nowadays are starting to invest more into our education, so there was a flaming sense of motivation that started to grow in our hearts. Aside from that, the majority of us lined up to give short reviews on our experience and receive a train miniature set for our reviews.

We took the bus to the Plaza Singapore, a jaw-dropping mall with 7 floors! Like our previous shopping experiences, we went in groups according to our main shop destinations. Everyone was already over the moon, but there was one thing that kept us a bit on our toes, and that was time. Although an hour was given to us, we still had to be cautious and make sure we return on time, and that was exactly what we successfully did! As everyone arrived at the meeting point group by group, we were all seen with a warm, wide smile planted on our faces.

We walked from the mall for about 300 meters to a restaurant called “Simply Peranakan – Authentic Asian Cuisine”. We took our seats in a round table. The food were served as soon as we got there. There were chicken, vegetables, egg, apples, soup, and more. There were delicous, as usual. We were also given warm tea.

At the end of the day, we arrived at the hotel and got to our rooms. Honestly, it was really heartbreaking to know that this was our last day in Singapore. Time does fly very fast. Our trip so far has truly been spectacular and it has been a privilege to learn in Dunman High School. Thank you Dunman High School, we love you!

SD Group 4 – Day 5

Our Last Day at Pei Hwa

Starting our wonderful day, all of us woke up at different times. Some woke up at 4AM, some woke up at 5AM. But none of us are late, so we went down to the lobby and waited for the bus. Once we were at the bus, some of us slept and some of us just talked and watched our phones. When we arrived, we went to class and put our things down, then we went to the Hall and got ready to perform our performance. We were feeling nervous and anxious at that time, but we managed to perform wonderfully. All of us are proud of ourselves for sure! We felt tired after that so we went to drink our water. After that, we went to attend classes and came to the Hosanna Auditorium at 11.15 (after break). When we were at the Hosanna, we spent time with our buddies and took selfies, hug each other, exchange numbers, etc. We enjoyed our time at Pei Hwa. We were really sad we had to leave our buddies, friends, and teachers. We said our last goodbye to our buddies, and we line up to go. We took a walk to some of us we’re sad and some are excited when we walked to Bukit Timah Food Center. In our way the tour guide explained to us about public houses in Singapore. There is also playground for children to play and also mini sports park for seniors and childrens. We also played at the playground and the sports park. It’s very fun. After that we came in to the food center. We look around and exploring the food center. It’s very interesting, we enjoyed exploring. After finish exploring, we came back to Pei Hwa and took our things. Then we went to the bus. And prepared for going to the Land Transport Authority ( LTA ). When we got there, there was many games to play. The kids loved to play it. They explored the places, then when the high schoolers have to go they were really sad. But the elementary students still exploring the places. There are many games for us to play, and there is one game that all of us cannot stop playing! After that, when we have to go to the mall, we all got in the bus and went to the mall. After we arrived to Simply Peranakan Restaurant, we went to one room. In that room there are two tables with 22 chairs. The table can turn around the table. We were so tired today, so we ate very lot of rice. But today, we don’t have many various foods, we just had fried chicken, soup, fried fish, fish ball, vegetable and rice. After we finished our dinner, we waited for the bus. When the bus already arrived, we went to hotel. Today we felt happy. I wish tomorrow we can be happy in our last day at Singapore and go home to Surabaya safely.

SMA Group 4 – Day 5

Mellow Yellow

Five days we’ve been in Singapore and four days we’ve been exchange students. Today was our last day here in Dunman High school. We all woke up, had breakfast and arrived there. We all did our own class schedules too. Some of us went and had PE for the first time. We played volleyball and thought that the teacher was really nice and helpful. After we finished more classes, we came to our day’s conclusion.

At the end of the day, we all had a lot of fun taking lots of pictures and saying goodbye to our Dunman buddies. We all had exchanged gifts that we had prepared before. Some of us got heart warming letters and some of us cried. We had an amazing experience in Dunman Highschool and we will surely miss our classmates and friends that we’ve made.

After we left Dunman, we headed for the LTA or Land Transport Authority. We learnt many things there. We studied the transportation system in this developed country, namely (Singapore). We learnt the mechanics of getting on the bus. We also learnt how to use the MRT. Not only that, we also played several games there. There were VR/Virtual Reality, Quiz games, and many more. Then we headed to Plaza Singapura

We arrived at Plaza Singapura for shopping before we got our dinner. Basically in Plaza Singapura the tour guide gave us around 1 hour to look around and shop, after 1 hour passed we returned to the meeting point where the tour guide had told us before. After that we walked together to get our dinner at a chinese restaurant. Done eating, we went back to our bus and returned to our hotel.

Today was a really nice and short day, full of happy tears and also laugher, very heartwarming goodbyes too. It’s been five days here and we can’t wait what memories our last day brings.

SMA Group 1 – Day 4

A Relaxing Day

All of us woke up around 5 and got ready to start a brand new day. Today’s breakfast was more relaxed than yesterday. The bus arrived at 08:00 to pick us up so we had plenty of time to eat breakfast. As usual, the café opened at 07:00 and we went down together to the 4th floor. We enjoyed our breakfast. Before 08:00, all of us went down to the lobby. However, it was raining so we had to take out our umbrellas and raincoats and got a small briefing before we went to the bus. Somehow the rain stopped when we were on the way to our bus. So, some of us weren’t using it.

In our school we became more closer with our buddies that we could eat foods and share jokes together. That’s the best part because we could exchange the culture easily by becoming friendlier.

Edward: “I learned chemistry about bondings, General Paper about English essays that’re related to politics.”

Elina: “I learned Math about function, General Paper about essay.”

Jens & Britney: “I learned General Paper Seminar, Biology about cells, Econs about the text that’re provided by the teacher.”

Nadya: “I learned History, the material was The Korean War and Cuban missile crisis. Besides that, I also had Project Work.”

When we did the recess, some of us ate at the canteen although the queue was quite long. Henceforth, some of us also bought the Dunman’s uniform that would be a memory thing from Singapore.

We then arrived in Oo La Lab. There we learned about how we can mix existing fragrances to make a unique perfume scent. We learned that we can balance out the scent by mixing fragrances with varying tones to it like floral, oriental, fresh, and complex. We each get to smell all the different scents and make our own bottle that we can take home.

We headed to HarbourFront Centre to enjoy our dinner after school. We had bak kut teh from Song Fa restaurant which has been rewarded by MICHELIN Guide Singapore in 2022. It is indeed so good ?. Some of the junior high school students even went around to ask for more chinese doughnuts. As soon as we finished our meal, we walked around to buy chocolates and popcorn. We also walked to Vivo City which is located next to the previous mall.

After the dinner, we found out that Vivo is a place where MRT also stops too, so that’s why it was really crowded. The guide say we have 1 full hour to explore the mall. But most of the shops are crowded with customers, so some of us spent our time just waiting in line. One of them is a sweet store. All of us did another shopping haul at the aforementioned sweet shop. Elina said she wants to buy her sister something but ended up not finding it so we wasted our time there. While we are out adventuring we got seperated for a while but still managed to reunite again.

After we had dinner and hung out inside the mall, we went back to the hotel and did some briefing with Miss Hariyati at the hotel lobby.

The Highlight Of The Day:

“We realized that Dunman sold their uniforms so we could feel and imagine how to be Dunman’s student.”

Hope for the next day: “We could present the performance from Indonesia well and got the best experience inside the school since it’ll be our last day at Dunman High School.”

SD Group 1 – Day 4

Friendship Day!?????

Greetings people. Today is a very special day. Why??? You must be wondering. Because today is ?(drum rolls sound) FRIENDSHIP DAY!!!?.
We had so much fun at school. Hari ini sekolah Pei Hwa mengadakan acara khusus dalam rangka memperingati Friendship Day. Semua guru dan siswa berkumpul di hall untuk merayakannya. Dalam kegiatan tsb bbrp guru pei hwa memakai baju dari berbagai negara tetangga. Kami dan guru2 Petra jg ikut berpartisipasi dengan menggunakan pakai tradisonal Indonesia. Selain itu, acara Friendship Day diisi dengan tampilan Story Telling bertemakan Persahabatan. Pesan yg kami dptkan dari kegiatan ini adalah mengetahui bagaimana menjadi sahabat yang baik.
At 9.30 we went to the hall to practice our perfomance later on Thursday. Some of our friends sang and some of our friends danced. We were done practicing at 10.30, so we had to continue our lesson, some of our friends didn’t need to go to class because they’re doing PE like Winston, Kezia and Jesslyn. Then it’s 10.45. It’s the recess time.
After recess, we went to the art room because it was Chinese lesson. We painted on something like Chinese plates made of bamboo. We painted Chinese flowers. There’s so many types of flowers that we could pick. Our buddies picked us up so we went back to our class, but before that, we showed our art works to them. They were shocked because it was so good and we were so happy seeing our buddies again. Then we went to our class. ?(Bells rang) oh it’s time to end the lesson ?. We were so sad.
Ok, we haven’t tell you yet. So we went to S.E.A. Aquarium. We found so many species. There were about 100,000 species more. OMG SO MANY. Then, we went to Vivo city but we didn’t have much time. We went to Song Fa Ba Kut Teh for dinner. After dinner, kami keliling2 Vivo, salah satu outlet yang yang we went to Garrett popcorn to buy popcorn, I think it is obvious to buy popcorn because it says Garrett “popcorn”. Setelah berkeliling, kami Kembali ke hotel. We wish tomorrow we can do our concert smoothly. THANK YOU AND GBU.

SD Group 2 – Day 4

PEP Day 4

Today was the friendship day in Pei Hwa. We gathered at the hall and joined the activities. The teachers at Pei Hwa wore traditional clothes so do Petra teachers and students.
Michelle, Sharon and Jordan went on the stage and presented about their traditional costumes, namely: ulos, lurik, and kebaya
After that, there was drama performance played by 2 Pei Hwa teachers. The story taught us about good things in friendship. The teachers acted so well and funny. They also called volunteers to join drama.
After it was over, we had our breakfast in the cafetaria and joined classes with our buddies. Next, we went again into the hall to prepare our performance in singing and dancing for tomorrow. We wanted to make sure that everything will be ready for tomorrow.

Then, we had recess time, we could choose various food in some stalls. the food were very yummy!
Then, we went to art class on the third floor. The teacher was really nice! She taught us about the flowers and their meanings. She also taught us how to paint flowers using brushes on the small round traditional bamboo. Some of us were struggling but some of us, like Collin, Evan, Chloe did very well. However, time was very limited until we couldn’t finish it. Teacher told us to continue it at home and we brought it. Before it was over, We took pictures and went back to our class. At 1.30 p.m the school finished and we said goodbye to our friends and teachers.

The journey after school was in S.E.A Aquarium. We were very excited!
We saw many kinds of beautiful fish, they were so cute. We were escorted to a place where there were super duper cute dolphins. The trainers fed and played with them! We were very happy although our pants got a little wet because dolphins splashed the water with their fins. After going out from the dolphin’s pool, we saw various fish and sharks from other areas. Everyone was so happy to see them. Finally, we entered the souvenir shop, there were toys, key chains, stationaries, dolls and so on. The price was rather expensive but some of us bought them.

Then, We walked out and saw some shops there, one of them was Candylicious. Many of us visited and bought sweets. Around 15 minutes later, we got into a monorail train and went to Vivo. There, we went dinner to a restaurant called Song Fa. It sells food called Bak Kut Teh. The taste was fantastic and amazing!
After that, we went sightseeing and visited some places, like popcorn shop, bread, smiggle, etc. We were tired but we were happy! Finally, We went into the bus and went back to the hotel. In the hotel, we got some briefings, made our journal, took a shower, and took a rest.

We think our favorite parts were when we went to see the dolphins and got the art lesson, they were so terrific!
For tomorrow, hopefully we can perform at the hall, in front of Pei Hwa audience well and we can have best moment in sharing the experience during studying at Pei Hwa school. Not to forget, giving souvenir to buddies.

SMA Group 2 – Day 4

New day, new morning

This time we got plenty of time to eat breakfast, so we decided to take it easy in the morning. For some reasons I think we reached dunman too early as some of our buddies weren’t even there yet. But we had time to join morning assembly and flag raising in our own class. We sang National Anthem and School Song together with our new friends, continued by watching the election of the school council members in Dunman. Straight away, we started with the GP lecture in the auditorium where we learned how to analyze issues based on the value & values. Continued by the seminar regarding the lecture, where we made our own choice of a story and analyze our opinions on the group discussion. We brainstormed a lot with my buddy and we shared our own views.
Fina had her meal time and tried the korean food in the canteen.
Lynn decided to skip lunch, because she got out of class too late; and when she got to the canteen, it was already full and the queues are very long. So she decided to go back to the class and shared her snack with her buddies. Surprisingly all her buddies loved the snack and ate it all up at once.
The recess was for we went back to class for a CCA lesson discussing about our own awareness of student’s mental health. Moving onto the math class, we studied about graph and transformation together in a group. Finally at 2 pm sharp we finished the class.
We went to Oola perfume workshop, over there we got to make our own perfume. The first step was to find out the best fragrances that we liked, so there were many bottles of parfume base fragrances. Some were sweet like vanilla, some were fresh like citrus, there were weird ones too. We had a sheet of paper listing all of the frangrances, so we took turn smelling each one, and we marked the ones we liked on the paper. When that’s done, we were given small vials to try out different mixes of our favourite fragrances.
The last step was to convert our most favourite mix of parfume into ml, in total each of us got 11 ml of parfume. But it didn’t end there, we had a small surprise when the conductor of the workshop gave out free oola products by answering some of her questions. In our group, Brandon got one, it was a matcha scented candle.
For dinner we had bakuteh, it was really good, and we all loved it.
Then we went to vivo, funny thing was, most of the time was used for walking and running and not the shopping itself. At the end our group made it to the meeting point in time, when the others hadn’t come yet.
After we stroll through the Vivocity area, we went back to the bus and straight away headed to our hotel. Before we went into our own room, we were gathered with the teachers for some evaluation, and finally we can take a rest preparing for tomorrow’s school. Tomorrow will be started earlier so we have to be ready earlier too. Besides, tomorrow will be the last day at school. So sad when we realize it, but we hope we can meet our buddies and other new friends in Dunman when they come to Surabaya.

Highlight for today: It’s interesting when we practised how to make our own perfume and when we were closer with our buddies.

SMP Group 1 – Day 4

“A Scentful Day”

On this beautiful morning, we woke up happily to face another wonderful day. After waking up, we all immediately showered and got ready for breakfast. Everyone had gathered, we just went downstairs for breakfast. Today the food was kwetiaw, potato wedges, boiled eggs, pastries, cereal. For dessert, we have as usual oranges and apples and marmalade. We had breakfast for 40 minutes, after which we went downstairs and were given some instructions. When we wanted to leave the hotel, it was raining really hard, so we had to use raincoats and umbrellas. After everything was ready, we just got on the bus to go to school.

About 15 or more minutes later, we finally arrived at Dunman High School. Our buddies immediately greeted us in the lobby to guide our way to our classes. As usual, we went to the classes of 3rd year students of Dunman Junior High School to study with the other students. We learnt lots of interesting materials in different subjects. Today, we did an experiment in Chemistry. It was about “Rainbow in A Tube ”. The results were spectacularly done. Furthermore, we took some photos with our buddies before we left the school to go to the next destination. Lastly, we said goodbye to our buddies and everyone from the school and we immediately went to a perfume workshop to continue our activity today.

After school, we went to Oo La Lab, a perfume laboratorium, where we all went in to make the perfumes of our creations. We were briefed for a bit about how to make the perfumes, then we were given a questionnaire to fill out and to help us remember about our perfume’s composure. In the end, every person had a different scent and aroma, and after we all finished our perfumes we all earned caps to close up our perfumes.

After finishing out perfume workshop, we then headed to the restaurant for dinner because we were all are very hungry. For today we went to a Chinese restaurant called bay kut teh. The restaurant itself is located in a mall where the mall has a bridge that connects to the vivo mall. Soup baikut, cakwe, soy baikut, and some vegetables were the dishes that was being served. The best one for me was cakwe. It’s hard to describe it but it felt just right in the mouth. Second one was the soy baikut, soy baikut is one of the only true few truly Singaporean culture heritage dishes. After finishing all of our food, then we move to vivo to go shopping.

We had so much fun overall, expecting everything we could possibly get. All of us had so many things to learn together and it was very memorable. We got our breakfast, met our buddies, experimented with perfumes, went to Vivo Mall, and more. It was very exhausting, but we still have to gather energy for tomorrow’s last day at Dunman High School. We hope that tomorrow’s activity can run well and structured so that all these moments happening at PEP can be such memorable moments and lessons for us. See you on day 5 !

SD Group 3 – Day 4

Our Exciting Day at Singapore

Today is our 4th day in Singapore. Today we woke up at 4.30 am and we prepared our stuff. We went to the bus to go to the Pei Hwa School. When we arrived at school, we went to the hallway and there was an International Friendship Day event. The event was so fun, after the International Friendship event was over, we went to the canteen and we got our food to eat, it was really tasty and delicious because we were hungry. After we finished all our food we went to our class with our buddies, at the class we learned subject such as  Math, art, P.E,and English. At 9.30 a.m., we went to the hall to practice our final performance that we will perform tommorow. After we were done practicing, we were so exhausted so the teacher let us drink. Then, our buddies picked us up to go back to the class to learn more subjects, after we learned more subjects. At 10.50 a.m. we went to the canteen to have our recess session when we were done eating we went up to the classroom with our buddies to get our bag,after we got our bag the buddies were told to take me to art class,when i was at art class we learned about how to make art with paint we were given a picture of a flower that we can choose to draw with paint it was really fun and exciting at 12.30 pm the buddies picked us up from art class and we went to the class to learn more subject at 1.30 pm the teachers told us to be in the auditorium. we were told to check our bag if there is our valueable before going in the bus.when we were told to get in the bus to go to the sea aquarium. when we arrived we had to put our bag outside so Mr. Jimmy didn’t go with us because Mr Jimmy was watching our bags. when we went in it was so beatifull and amazing while we were inside we saw some dolphin show…from close!!! It was so amazing, but we couldn’t touch or take  photos.

We continued our toor then saw sea animals like fish, morray eel. starfish, jellyfish. Amd of course sharks!!!.such as hammerhead shark, nurse shacrks, black tip shark, white tip shark. Mr. Jo told us the biggest shark is called the bill shark.

 When we were done exploring ot we went to the souviner shop to buy some things.after we already went to the Souvenir shop,we went outside and took our bag that Mr. Jimmy was watching we went to the train to eat dinner but before we went in the train some people went to the toilet,when they were done we went in the train to go to the restaurunt. we arrived to the restarurant named song fa we ate some fried bread which we call “cakue” the food was so amazing and delicious after we went to the song fa restaurunt we went to garret’s popcorn to buy some popcorn after we bought our garret’s popcorn we went downstairs to go in the bus to go to the hotel , after we arrived to the hotel, we went up to floor 13 and now here we are making the report for todays journey!

Highlight of the day:

The Internasional Friendship Day was amazing and we also could see the dolphins at the Sea Aquarium and see wonderful sights such as fish,sharks,eel,seadragon,and more

The wish: We wish that tommorow, we could do our performance well and at bukit timah food centre we could enjoy local foods and having fun there.

SMA Group 3 – Day 4

Smells Like a Fine Day

#4 Journal, 5th April 2023

The sun has risen, a brand new day has started. The rain welcomed our gloomy morning. Yesterday, we had a very tiring at Jewel because we explored the entire mall. Hence, we were allowed to wake up later. We had our breakfast at 7 am and went to Dunman HS at around 7.30. The bus arrived earlier so we weren’t late like yesterday. As usual, our buddies waited for as at the front hall of the school. Then, we walked to each our classes together with our buddy.

Today, we learnt a lot of things at school. Starting with General Paper Lecture. We discussed about the difference between value and values. Values talked about referring to guide principles. While, values refers to what matters, while importance refers to how much they matter. Next we had a seminar. The teacher told us to play a story game about immigration and we share our relatives that have migrated to other country. We also had project work, they were doing a project about how dog owner have to behave. Last subject of today, I followed the geography lecture. They talked about how to make the right research.

Next up on our list is the Perfume Workshop, we arrived at the lab and we walked around while the instructor told us things about perfumery, such as different kinds of scents, the three categories of scents used in perfume making (base, middle, top), and how to make the perfume step by step. We had around 1 hour to mix and create own scent, which will be used to make the perfume. After we have done all of these steps, all of us got some bottles to put in our mixture, and then we packed the perfume to bring back home. Then, the instructor quizzed on perfumery and things alike. After that, we all went back to the bus, ready to move on to the next location.

We went straight to dinner at “Song Fa Bak Kut Teh”, it was so delicious. After that we were given an hour to explore the big “Vivo City Singapore”, honestly it was not enough to explore Vivo City in one hour time. We went to several places, Sharron wants to buy some things for their family and Rara needs to buy chocolates for their friends, and Andrea, Nixon, and Sean were only following them. We were exploring indoor and outdoor sections of the mall, we almost get lost, but thank God we can find our way out

After a long day, we went back from vivo to the hotel. Miss hariati briefed us about the schedule tomorrow and then each group was given their key room to go back to their room and take a shower. We agreed to work on the report together at 21:00 in Sharron and Rara’s room.

The highlight of the day was when we almost got lost in Vivo City. We were looking for chocolate shop that’s far away from our meeting point. The mall was so big that we traveled from parts to parts, levels to levels, to found the candy shops.

The day wasn’t as tiring as yesterday, but we still had a lot of fun. We kept learning a lot of new things and getting new experiences everyday. We can’t wait for what awaits us tomorrow.
