Group 2 Day 3

This morning, we all woke up around 6AM in the morning and did our morning routines, after that we left our rooms and headed to the Hotel’s All You Can Eat Buffet.

We all entered the Restaurant and picked our own food, the most notable dishes there were Pasta, Potato Wedges, Tortillas, Beans, Porridge, Rice, Toast, and Cereal. They also served drinks such as water, fruit juice, tea, and coffee.

Overall, the food tasted great but we had to finish our food early as we left the Hotel to head to Dunman High School at 7:20 AM.

We arrived to school but we got something unexpected. We took too long during breakfast so we were late for the assembly in school. The teacher asked us to wait for a couple of minutes till our buddies came down to pick us up. We went to the hall, the hall was really big and we got a talked from the National Organ Transplant Unit + Ministry Health. They explained us about a lot of things, most importantly is organ donation and transplantation. They provided us some questions we can answer and if we answer it, they will give us a tote bag! It was really interesting knowing about all our body parts that we can donate to other people. We do learn new things everyday. From this presentation they gave, we could understand more about our body parts.

Next, we went to our classes to start the lesson, some of us haven’t met our other teachers yesterday so mostly we met them today. We learned a lot for today, most of us were very tired but we still enjoyed the class the teacher have given us. We have some struggles during time to time but our buddies and friends helped us with the materials we are confused in. It’s finally lunch time, some of us went to the cafe in the back of the school and some of us ate in the canteen with our buddies. Even though it was really crowded, the food there was really tasty.

At 1.30 we all finished our lessons and left the classroom to gather at the entrance or lobby of the Dunman school. We all gathered there with our respective buddies and then got into the photo-taking session together. Not only photos with buddies but also with teachers who teach at the Dunman school. After we finished taking photos together, we all got on the bus to go to our first tourist spot, NeWater.

When we arrived at NeWater, we all lined up and were directed to take a photo together. All junior high and high school students took pictures holding the Petra student exchange banner. The event on NeWater starts at 2.45. There we are not allowed to drink, eat, and take videos. First, we went to the auditorium to watch the video. The video explains the history of Singapore, which used to have difficulty getting clean water sources. Not only that, in this video we were also explained how to maintain the cleanliness and availability of water in nature. The video shown is very interesting because it explains why Singapore created NeWater. It turns out that NeWater not only filters water but also buys water from Malaysia with a total of around 400 million gallons per day.

The second activity we did was to go to the Water Hero. Water Hero is a place made especially for school children which is next to the auditorium. There we can play, take photos, and lots of information about water cleanliness. We all also took photos of the bottle trees that have been arranged since 2018.

Lastly, we were given the opportunity to see the NeWater factory. Ms Diana also explained to us the water purification process that is carried out at NeWater. Ms Diana also explained how each machine used in the NeWater factory works.

We resumed our journey to Jewel Chang-i Mall, one of Singapore’s largest malls, after completing our tour at NeWater. Fun fact: This mall is called Jewel Chang I as it’s actually connected to the airport, and because there were so many tourists taking pictures there, we decided to do the same. We snapped a few pictures with the entire PETRA group as well as with each member of our group.

We went there with the main objective of visiting and learning about “Irvins Salted Egg,” one of Singapore’s most well-known snacks. Today, we learned a lot about this snack, including where it originated, its history, and how to make it. In addition to learning there, we also purchased some gifts for our family and friends. The majority of us purchased their best-selling salted egg fish skin as well as their new menu, which was created in partnership with Nissin, the most well-known manufacturer of instant noodles.

Our tour guide, Ms. Priscilla, gave us some time to explore the mall after we visited Irvins Salted Egg. The famous artificial waterfall is the main draw of Jewel, which also presents a chill surroundings and incredibly fresh air. Other attractions can be found on the mall’s top floor, such as glass floor walking, among many others.

The mall is directly through by a monorail railway, which is an unusual feature. Many of us purchased goods in Singapore from brands that are not available in Indonesia. We also purchased a variety of unusual foods, limited-edition items, and other items. After learning all of this, we realized that the tour leader was already waiting for us at the meeting location and that time was almost up. We then started going to the meeting point and walked to the bus to continue to our next destination.

Finally we were having a dinner at Sing Swee Kee. There is hainan rice, fried fish, pork beef, and some vegies. All of the food were really good, especially the fried fish. Every one likes the food.
